The Ney Yard dead line. Surprisingly, none of these locomotives have their stacks capped and many have open cab doors and windows. It seems recently they have also attracted the attention of local graffiti artists. If you search for UP 2174, which is in this line, you will see gunshot damage to the cab. I estimate there are 50 to 60 locomotives in this line. Perhaps this is the misfit bunch. |

You will not find mainline coal trains being led by locomotive consists such as this anymore. Back in the early 1990's it was still possible to get a GE C30-7 on the point leading a unit coal train on the Union Pacific. Here 2533 is on the point of a loaded coal train off the Utah Railway at Provo along Union Pacific's Provo Subdivision (Now Sharp Subdivision) at the Highway 6 Overpass. |
