Looking at this scene, you might well imagine it to be immediately post-merger with the Illinois Central Green Diamond geep leading the GM&O GP38. Only the trailing Paducah re-build suggest that it may be a bit later. It is, in fact, a full seven years and counting since the birth of Illinois Central Gulf as this freight rolls through Freeburg, Illinois the day after Christmas in 1979. |

It never ran on the railroad for which it was painted. Later, after becoming ICG 9570, this unit was wrecked and retired 3/22/1992. |
