Description:  Sweetland. Here is duplicate 35mm color slide of a photo by David R. Sweetland that was taken near Gallitzin, Pennsylvania, in October of 1960. Shown here (L to R) are Pennsylvania Railroad engines #8661, #5841, and two more E-7's whose numbers are not recorded. #8661 is an AS-18AM built by the American Locomotive Company in January of 1958 and rated at 1,800 horsepower. #5841 is an EP-20 built by GM-EMD in August of 1947 and rated at 2,000 horsepower. They are pulling a passenger train up the Allegheny Mountains via the Horseshoe Curve, and are about to pass through one of the tunnels at Gallitzin on their way to Pittsburgh and points West. Visible in the foreground is the westbound connecting track to the New Portage Branch.

Description:  4th Street. Here is an original photo that I took of a Pennsylvania Railroad train in Altoona, Pennsylvania, during January of 1961. Shown here (L to R) are PRR engines #8655, #8676, and #8661. All are AS-18AM's built by the American Locomotive Company and rated at 1,800 horsepower each. #8655 was built in 1957, but #8676 and #8661 were built in 1958. They are pushing a westbound mixed-cargo freight train pulled by PRR engines #9607 and #9614-B, but will uncouple at Gallitzin and return to East Altoona for yet another run up the Allegheny Mountains. Visible on the left are numerous passenger cars marshalled for reconditioning in the PRR's Passenger Car Shops behind them. Photo taken from the 4th Street Bridge. Description:  Oil Power. Here is an original photo that I took near Cresson, Pennsylvania, during April of 1962. Shown here (R to L) are Pennsylvania Railroad engines #8666 and #8661. Both are AS-18AM's built by the American Locomotive Company in 1958 and rated at 1,800 horsepower each. They are pulling a string of loaded hopper cars toward Cresson, where they will merge with the mainline and proceed down the Allegheny Mountains via the Horseshoe Curve to the Eastbound Receiving Yards in Altoona. Photo taken from a moving automobile at a place where the Irvona Branch parallels US Route 22 (Admiral Peary Highway), just West of Cresson.

Shown here (R to L) are PRR engines #8661, #8657, #8667, #9690, and #9776. #8661, #8657, and # 8667 are AS-18AM's built by the American Locomotive Company and rated at 1,800 horsepower each. #8661 and #8667 were built in 1958, but # 8657 was built in 1957. #9690 is an EH-15 built by EMD in 1949 and rated at 1,500 horsepower. #9776 is an EF-15A built by EMD in 1951 and rated at 1,500 horsepower. They are pulling a 59-car westbound freight train with caboose #477806. They have just passed under the 12th Street Bridge and are right in front of the Altoona Passenger Station.

Shown here (L to R) are PRR engines #8673, #8664, #8676, #8661, and #8669. All are AS-18AM's built by the American Locomotive Company in 1958 and rated at 1,800 horsepower each. They are pushing a 98-car iron-ore train (headed by engine #2225) up the Allegheny Mountains via the Horseshoe Curve to Gallitzin, where they will uncouple and head back down the Alleghenies to East Altoona for yet another run up the Mountains. At the very end is N-8 caboose #478124. The homes in the background line one side of Altoona's 10th Avenue.
