Delta Southern (DSRR) |
Description: |
Great shiny paint and terrible track, thats the current Delta Southern. They appear to be serving an industry at the Madison Parish Port, and storing cars north of the wye to the port. |

Great River (GTR) |
Description: |
GTR is a weird one. They are still an 'active' shortline as far as the Feds are concerned. They are still listed by the Rosedale Port on their website as the port's rail connection. However, GTR has been under a formal embargo of rail traffic for years, meaning they are active but can't accept any cars. So their two Alcos slumber away, and the tracks have disappeared under the kudzu. |

V&S Railway LLC (VSR) |
Description: |
Right out of the gate, there is a discrepancy out there as to the actual reporting marks of the V&S. It is listed as either VS or VSR depending on where you look. This unit is listed under VS here, so thats what I went with (although I think VSR is actually right). Long strange trip to Medicine Lodge got me this super rare HR412W. Beast of an engine, and used as their only road unit to make the trip to Attica for interchange. |

Ozark Valley (OVRR) |
Description: |
OVRR didn't look too good on this trip. Down to switching one industry in Mexico, plus lots of old 100 ton hoppers in storage. Track into the industrial park really rusty, doesn't look like they are servicing the industries over there. I finally found the units down at the interchange. |

So, SDR wound up making it all of a year. They filed to discontinue service, stating that they weren't making enough money. Davenport Industrial RR took over on January 6, 2020. |

Description: |
Luck-I arrived at their enginehouse just in time to see the only crew coming back from switching the car storage yard. Turns out 4029 is the last RS4TC running-2 others are sold, the other blew its engine and is stored in the house. The ubiquitous EMDs are looming... |

For years, I have been trying to nab the AKMD in original paint. The G&W orange everything scheme doesn't cut it for me. Finally on this trip, I ran across the AKMD McGehee yard switcher actually out from behind cars. Mission finally accomplished. |

Geaux Geaux Railroad (GOGR) |
Description: |
The Geaux Geaux history involves the IC running their branch from Baker to Slaughter literally into the ground, local interests buying it, then at least 5 years of slow rebuilding back to service. This was followed by a couple more years of no trains. Finally, WATCO was contracted to run the line, and here we are with actual power on the "Go-Go". While there are some really scenic areas north, power is usually sitting in refinery row around Baker. |

Hudson Terminal (HTR) |
Description: |
Total dumb luck-on a trip back from Utah, I dropped by Hudson on a Sunday morning, just hoping they had parked a unit within telephoto distance (no such luck on previous trips). What do I find-HTR 646 switching away, and within range from a road. In this shot, the conductor is climbing down to align the switch as warhorse 646 burbles away. Made the rest of the 16 hour drive worth it. |

Adams Industrial RR (AIRR) |
Description: |
Adams Industrial RR (AIRR) is running the northwestern part of the old Big Sioux Army Depot, which was formerly operated by Sidney & Lowe (SLGG). AIRR interchanges with SLGG, has designated yard limits, and serves multiple industries, along with storing cars and transloading. However, AIRR isn’t a common carrier, but rather a contract carrier. 5105 has the non-AAR reporting marks AIRR on its cab. I was there looking for their Alco S6, which was nowhere to be seen, but this early NW2 is pretty rare itself. |

This pic officially breaks a record for me-3 trips to Chillicothe, 3 different shortlines, same unit twice. Last trip this was CBRM 4485, same paint, different owner. Also the run-down Wabash depot next door is now fixed up as a restaurant. Go figure. |

Swan Ranch RR (SRRR) |
Description: |
I found the big power of the Swan Ranch tied up on a Saturday, during a windstorm so bad it was blowing trucks off the roads in this area. There is a lot of dust in the air, making all the pics I shot slightly blurry. This one is probably the best of the ones I shot. Glad to see Watco actually lettering engines for the railroad assigned. Wish the tunnel motor been up front, but you get what you get. |
