Catching rays
Title:  Catching rays
Description:  RPPY rolls south out of East Binghamton at Shaws Rd in Conklin behind a set of CSX power, including an untouched-except for the number-L&N GP 40. The sun had been playing hide and seek all day, so it was nice to get this in one of the few sunny moments.

Clear of the yard
Title:  Clear of the yard
Description:  RPPY has reached Shaws, the block limit station near Shaw Rd, about a mile or so south of Terrace Dr. Now clear of the East Binghamton yard, it still had a long slow ride before it could start to run, as there was a 10 MPH speed restriction almost all the way to the state line. It made for an easy chase, but not so good for the crews.

Moving now
Title:  Moving now
Description:  RPPY has cleared the slow trackage in NY, and is now getting a roll on as it runs next to the road coming into Hallstead. The long hood forward practice on NS extended to the modern GEs, which must have been a real pain for the crews.

Southern and snow
Title:  Southern and snow
Description:  I know there are many parts of Southerns empire where snow is not all that unusual, but I have to love the idea of power from such a typically warm area running up in the snow and cold of NY and PA. This RPPY has just left East Binghamton, and is slowly making its way through Conklin.

Title:  Winter wonderland
Description:  It wasnt so wonderful to us, just a long period of cold and snow that had to be endured, except that it gave us some good photo ops. One of these was off the NY 7 overpass at the south end of Conklin, where RPPY is rolling for a place where the winters arent so bad.

Getting out
Title:  Getting out
Description:  RPPY has just left East Binghamton, and is passing BLS Shaws. By this time, trains have usually cleared the south limit of the yard. There is still a slow slog to the end of the double track south of Conklin, as there is a 10 MPH speed restriction in place. Its a drag for the crews, but a great opportunity for photographers.

View from the bridge
Title:  View from the bridge
Description:  One of the good things about the Cut Off was the grade separation. There were no crossings from Clarks Summit to Halstead. There were a number of overhead bridges, such as this one on PA 706 just south of New Milford, which provided good vantage points for photos. PYRP rolls under behind a we-ain't-mad-at-nobody consist on a gloomy Sunday.

Description:  The maple leaf, that is. The first train to come through with CP power was this 42 car acid train, symbolled 700, which ran from Montreal to Baltimore. We see it rolling south out of East Binghamton at Shaw Rd behind a trio of CP SD 40s, power we would become quite accustomed to over the next 20 years.
