Album Info:Here is a three-page article entitled "Scrap And Reclamation." It was published originally in the January 1957 issue of "Pennsy" magazine, pages 11-13. No author is specified. "For the price of steel and the prices of its manufactured products are now so high that with railroad profits limited by low freight rates and low passenger fares, the Pennsylvania ~ largest of all railroad users of steel ~ must more than ever sell its unreclaimable scrap for revenue, and reclaim all reusable material to hold down its costs for repairs." (Page 11)

Top Left Photo Caption: "Scrap by trainload reaches Hollidaysburg for sorting and reclamation." In this photo, the photographer is facing toward Frankstown ~ and beyond it toward the double-tracked Hollidaysburg-Petersburg Branch line. The gondolas in the foreground are parked on what were once the Eastbound Dispatch Tracks, while the boxcars at the far left are parked on what were once the Westbound Receiving Tracks. Moreover, this was once the right-of-way for the Pennsylvania Main Line Canal.

Shown here is Pennsylvania Railroad engine #6404, a J-1A (2-10-4) "Texas" built in this very Shop in June of 1943 and retired in November of 1958 after just 15 years of service.
