Album Info:January 2018 started innocently enough, but quickly gained momentum with day-after-day of unusual and unexpected sightings in my little world of trains - including CP action on the rarely used Stevensville spur; sparkling blue Norfolk Southern Dash-9 rebuild NS 4000; two encounters with CN 3027 and CP 8813 working together on a CP mixed freighter, an eastbound CSX intermodal leaving Frontier Yard in Buffalo, and to wind it all up - ex Union Pacific Dash-8 9385 on CN Train 531 - still in UP colors.

Description:  My second entry in the "Catch of the Year for 2018 - in January" category, is this pairing of sister GE AC4400CW's - dropping off cars on the rarely used Stevensville spur. This was once the CP mainline to Fort Erie and the USA border, but was closed off east of Stevensville years ago, when the Brookfield Wye connector track was installed, allowing CP trains to veer onto the CN main. Even the brakeman joked with me about this unusual sighting: I have crossed this track almost daily since I moved to the Niagara Region just over a year ago - and this is the first time I have ever seen a train movement on this spur - now used only for storage as necessary.

Description:  It's rare that I see only CP trains in my daily train chases, but today is one of those days. After the totally unexpected CP encounter on the rarely used Stevensville spur, it was down to Fort Erie for a little experiment. As the trains head into Canada, you can see the headlights on the approach to the International Bridge. Is there enough time after seeing the train to hop in the car, drive west to Central Avenue, park the car, hop out and run out onto the middle of the Central Avenue overpass before the train passes underneath??? The answer is a resounding YES - as I caught - once again - this unusual pairing of locomotives CN 3026 and CP 8813 (see my January 14th pics) on a CP mixed freighter - this time from the bridge.
