Description:  Today my dad and I started Day 1 of our 6 day outing to Galesburg Railroad Days. My dad has done this every summer for 20 years now but this is the first year that I have ever gone, and we sure saw some cool trains! To start off the trip, we began in Fort Wayne. We heard a CFE train get track authority to continue east out of Piqua Yard, but it never showed up. So we decided to just go into the yard to photograph the engines in the yard. Right up front was a pair of orange units patiently waiting for their next assignment.

Description:  Next we went over to East Wayne to catch NS 256, the eastbound triple crown train, after hearing it coming into town on the scanner. Sad sight to see that there are only 2 Triple Crown trains left, this on and its counterpart 255. I remember seeing these daily on every NS line in northeast Indiana not even more than 5 years ago.

Description:  Next we went over to Ligonier and stopped on the dead end bridge just east of town. There we saw NS 878 which had been stopped due to mechanical issues. Soon after we got there they got their signal to continue east. Sadly, the NYC bracket signals are no longer here. Most of the old signals have been taken down even the signal bridge in Waterloo. Just isnt the same without them.

Description:  Next we moved into Goshen. When we got closer we heard B38 switching the grain elevator right inside of town along US 33 so we went down to see it. A common GP38-2 pair was working the local today but what was interesting about it was NS 5609 now has pink graffiti on the nose. The last time I saw this engine was with Ethan a couple of weeks ago and it didnt have graffiti on the nose so whoever tagged the engine must have done it recently.

Description:  After the oil train passed we heard the dispatcher give a Grand Elk train permission to head north. We raced north to Bristol but got there a couple minutes too late. The wild goose chase caused us to miss a couple of NS trains. Oh well. Anyways we went into Elkhart and to make up for missing the GDLK train we went to see Elkhart and Westerns two engines sitting still in their small yard surrounded by the gate that protects them from vandalism.
