Album Info:This album features photos my dad and I took on Day 3 of our outing to Galesburg Railroad Days. Trains featured in this album will be on the BNSF Transcon Main between Toluca and East Galesburg, IL, the IAIS branch to Peoria, and the UP branch in Edelstein, IL. Enjoy!

Description:  Today my dad and I are starting Day 3 of our Galesburg Railroad Days trip. Today we will work the BNSF Transcon Main to Galesburg. We started off the morning in Toluca to catch a couple trains on the "Coal Jumbo" a giant hill that overlooks the town and the railroad. It was very muddy from the evening before so I was the only one who went up. Just a bit too cloudy still and hazy from all the humidity to get a good shot of any train up there. Too many trees in the way to get a clear view as well. But I went up there anyways. First came an westbound intermodel with 5 BNSF engines.

Description:  I wasnt all that happy with my shot from the Jumbo so I decided to come down to the truck again to catch the next train. BNSF 5715 leads a westbound intermodel close behind the other train. Just too cloudy and hazy today to get anything decent from up there with the type of cameras I have.

Description:  Next we moved down to Winter Haven Road just outside of Wilburn, IL. Here the road passes above the tracks so we decided to shoot some trains from above. We ended up staying a lot longer than we thought we would as there were a lot of trains converging on us at once. First up was an eastbound intermodel led by a Tier 4 GEVO

Description:  Next we moved into the tiny town to Wilbern to at least try to catch one of the many trains that were coming by another one of the Sonoco Gas Houses. We were successful with this one as BNSF 5444 leads a westbound intermodel by the gas house. There were also some wild raspberries by the tracks which provided for a good snack while waiting on the train!

Description:  The one eastbound stack train slowed down and eventually came to a stop. Not too long after it stopped, BNSF 7213 led the eastbound UPS train under us, whipping by the other stack train.

Description:  After the last westbound we were able to finally get off the bridge and move to the other side of town. Though we had to do it very quickly since the road we had to take gets very far away from the tracks. When we got to the other side of town we could already see the train coming and it wasnt more than 2 minutes that the gates went down and BNSF 9134 came west with a trailer train. Finally something other than a GEVO or Dash 9 leading!

Description:  Between this train and the last train, we heard the IAIS dispatcher give IAIS 111 permission to come north up to Bureau Jct. About 15 minutes passed and this train came. By that point we were worried the IAIS was going to come through town while this train passed as well. We took our luck and caught BNSF 8012 rushing east with an intermodel through Chillicothe before dashing to the IAIS tracks.

Description:  We went down to the IAIS tracks. Little did we know that trains through Chillicothe have a 10 MPH speed restriction through town so we ended up waiting a very long time, missing one train we could have easily caught on BNSF. While we waited we took some photos of the ATSF caboose and old Rock Island Depot (now a museum).

Description:  A roster shot of IAIS 153. The more we thought about it, we have suspisions that this was not the "Peoria Rocket" (what IAIS calls the local to Peoria) because the entire train was distillers grain hoppers from ADM. It is unusual for the local to be all of one type of cars so IAIS 111 might be an extra distillers grain train.

Description:  We arrived at East Galesburg IL and grabbed some supper at Subway before heading back to the tracks to close off the evening. BNSF 4572 leads a westbound intermodel by the East Galesburg interlocking to close off the day of railfanning. Well, definitely more trains today than yesterday! A total of 30 trains on the day brings us to 97 for the trip. Plenty of cool catches today as well. Tomorrow we go to the train show (the main reason for the trip) and continue railfanning west to Fort Madison along the Transcon!
