Album Info:This album features pictures of trains on my long trip out west, this album including pictures between North Platte and Cheyenne. This year for vacation my aunt, brother, and I are headed out to Yellowstone Nat. Park and other various stops along the way. We will be going through Nebraska, Colorodo, Wyoming, South Dakota, Montana, Idaho, and back). It was a fun trip! Enjoy!

Description:  The next town of any size was Ogallala, NE. A lot of buildings are between the tracks and US 30 when you get into town, but thankfully I caught the glimpse of another parked intermodal. As soon as we parked and I got out to get my photos, the train continued its journey eastward.

Description:  The Overland Route takes a short dip into Colorado for about 20 miles west of Ogallala. So, in order to continue following the railroad, we went down into Colorado as well. The first town on the railroad once you enter Colorado is Julesburg, CO, a small and quaint town. The railroad had really quieted up after we got out of Ogallala, but we stopped at the Sinclar station to fill up with gas, and some yellow caught my eye. The engine being used for the local was tied down at the grain elevator, so I went to take some shots.

Description:  At Julesburg, the Overland Route splits into two different sections, the main section which continues west to Cheyenne, and the secondary section that continues further south to Sterling, CO and beyond. After we got gas we continued our way west, and it didnt take super long for us to see a headlight. This time it was a westbound local. I wish I would have gotten a video of this train because the very nice crew dished out a lot of extra horn.

Description:  We went from Julesburg all the way back into Nebraska without seeing a single train (after that local). At Chappell, NE however theres this really sweet GP9 highood that is used to work the grain elevator. While its not the FEC that most people would think of, its still pretty cool to see it!

Description:  Next town of size was Sidney. Sadly we went between Chappell and Sidney without a train, but when we got into Sidney there were plently. We took a short stop by the small UP yard there. The BNSF mainline goes over the top of the UP tracks here on a very large bridge (similar to Grand Island), but there were no BNSF trains. However, there were UP trains, first up being this eastbound manifest coming under the canteliever signals.

Description:  An eastbound UP manifest makes the final stretch into Sidney. At this point we all decided that we were hungry so we decided to jump onto I80 after this train. The tracks are still fairly close to I80 once you get into Wyoming so hopefully we dont miss a lot.

Title:  UP 7988
Description:  Tonight we will be staying at the Comfort Inn and Suites near downtown in Cheyenne. The final train of the day ended up being this intermodal lead by a GEVO and a SD70M. At this point it was getting too dark to really shoot (rain was coming) so we called it an evening here. A total of 34 trains passed the camera today, bringing the trip total up to 69. Tomorrows objective is to chase the Frontier Days Train coming in and out of Cheyenne with the mighty UP 844 and special guest, UP 1943.
