Album Info:Conrail's (now CSX's) Benning Yard, located in the Anacostia section of southeast Washington, DC, is mostly used for staging coal trains bound for power plants on the Pope's Creek Secondary. Benning also operates several locals. Most are symboled in the B7nn series. In mid-2006 CSX is reconstructing much of the trackage and signals at Benning in order to extend its double-track main. Nearing completion in summer 2006, the project will eliminate a short section of single-tracked main (the B&O's "connecting track" from Shepherd Jct to Anacostia Tower) that for decades had been a bottleneck, replacing it with new tracks 2 and 3 to correspond with RF&P track numbering south of Washington. This album illustrates the scene at Benning before, during and after the project.
