Description:  A crape myrtle makes a great contrast to the Big Boy as it rolls north. It has just crossed the river at Cape Girardeau, and is heading north towards St. Louis. This is the second time in the day where I caught 4014, and I'd catch it four more times today.

Description:  Whew. After abandoning the chase of 4014 at Chester, I ran ahead to Valmeyer. I'd scoped out a spot on the ridge at Salt Lick Point (if you're in the area, check it out!), and had climbed to the top in record time. It was about 95° F that day, and about 80% humidity. I spent the hour waiting for the Big Boy trying to keep hydrated; I'd hate to have been in the cab for this.
