Album Info:On the final weekend of July, my buddy TJ and I took a 3 day boys trip up to Great Wolf Lodge in Sandusky, OH. Of course, being train fanatics, we had to fit some trains in there! Enjoy!

NS 6325
Title:  NS 6325
Description:  The long awaited boys trip to Great Wolf Lodge with TJ had finally come! A 2 night, 3 day weekend trip at one of my favorite trip destinations....and of course some trains to go along the way! I went down to Muncie in the early morning to get TJ and begin our day. Storms had rolled in during the early morning hours with muted any sort of rising sunlight we would have had, but we both said to ourselves that Muncie would probably not be busy before we left to go north anyway. Man were we ever wrong. We grabbed NS 177 almost right off the bat (which unfortunately I could not get my equipment set up in time for) at Ohio Street, and NS L82 asked for permission out of the yard and south after them. We were able to get down to the Kitseman Trailhead in time to grab it coming across the White River. Im quite happy that the Muncie pool has transitioned from widecab GEs back to standard local power. SD40Es are much nicer.

Description:  As L82 was departing out the south end, NS L99 was arriving at the north end. We could not make it to one of the other bridges in time so we settled for a shot at CP Gavin, the entrance to the yard.

NS 4039
Title:  NS 4039
Description:  The original plan for the day was to go straight up to the Waterlevel Route and follow it straight to Sandusky. But since Muncie had been so busy right when I got there, and the NCD was showing signs of life in the form of southbounds, we decided to follow the New Castle District north. NS 189 stopped us north of Eaton first off.

NS 7034
Title:  NS 7034
Description:  NSs OCS was bound for Cincinnati yesterday morning, and was supposed to run via Columbus. But due to a crew shortage, the train ended up spending the night in Bellevue, and was recrewed with a Bellevue-Fort Wayne crew early this morning, which meant it would be running to Cincinnati via the NCD. In all honesty, if it would not have been for the OCS, we probably would have went directly to the Chicago Line. But, even though it no longer features the F units, seeing the OCS is still pretty cool. We made it to Bluffton and grabbed it coming by the grain elevator at South Street. I do wish theyd give these SD60Es a different paint job at least.

NS 9921
Title:  NS 9921
Description:  I needed to make a quick stop at home to grab something before continuing north. Things on the NCD had quieted down some as most traffic had been sidelined to wait on the OCS. However, there was a very late NS 28C in the siding at Montpelier. We decided to forgo that and continue north, until we heard NS 64D key up dispatch and tell him they were ready to pull a 100 car train out of the ethanol plant in Bluffton. I almost decided to let that go as well, since they would have to wait on NS 28C to come north before they could get out onto the main, but I had TJ look at the power for us anyway. Sure enough, NS 8104, the Lehigh Valley Heritage Unit, was the leader. TJ adores the heritage locomotives and Ill be honest, getting the OCS and a heritage unit on nearly back to back trains was almost too hard to pass up. A line of strong thunderstorms had developed to the north as well, so sitting at home and waiting for the storms to pass while the trains played catch-up was more in our favor anyway. We spent time at my house until NS 28C got close and drove down to the Lafever Street crossing for it. A sole NS Dash 9 and a pair of BNSF GEs were on the front of todays train. Since TJ works for NS, he has a number of coworkers he knows on most of the trains that run the NCD, and he managed to get a hornshow for us out of the Muncie based recrew on this train. The conductor seemed quite confused to see him so far north Muncie watching trains!

NS 8104
Title:  NS 8104
Description:  It only made sense that NS 64D would wait to come north until after the rain had started, but a little rain doesnt stop us! We went up to CR 1200N at the county line south of Yoder to get it out in the open. Ive actually shot this heritage unit at this crossing on multiple occasions since it was stuck in our local pool for quite some time last year. Rain or shine, that maroon paint continues to look good. This was our first heritage unit we had caught together on the front, so that was pretty cool!

CSX 928
Title:  CSX 928
Description:  After NS 64D it was time to get north to the Chicago Line since we were already getting up there much later than I had hoped. When we crossed CSX at Indo however, a westbound tripped the defect detector at Hicksville. Way too close for us to pass up, so we pulled over and grabbed M367 racing west toward Garrett. The Georgia Railroad Emblem unit was mid DPU, but we didnt get shots of that.

Description:  NS 25G starts our day on the Chicago Line heading west out of Butler. I should say "afternoon" instead of "day" at this point, as it was well after noon before we finally got here. I was hoping to be in Toledo at this point, but heritage units and OCSs tend to change plans.

UP 5382
Title:  UP 5382
Description:  NS 31M was originally ahead of NS 265, but it got hit by the defect detector outside of Bryan and was forced to stop. NS 265 was lined around 31M east of Edgerton, and we almost decided to leave 31M behind just to catch-up since we were running so behind on schedule. But we never managed to get past where 31M was stopped before the conductor keyed up dispatch and told them that they were all ready to go. It was a good idea that we decided to wait on it anyway. The UP leader followed by the high hood GP38-2 made for a pretty cool consist. The town of Edgerton has recently repainted both water towers as well. I am a fan of the bulldogs new look!

NS 4570
Title:  NS 4570
Description:  NS was so quiet almost the entire afternoon, and I was shocked that we saw as few trains as we did between Butler and Toledo. However, there was a 29P with a Fakebonnet/WFRX SD70MAC duo that was coming that we were counting on seeing. Unfortunately for us, I was unaware that they would work the Mega, so with there being no traffic around at all, we decided to zip around Toledo and forgo 29P (which was a mistake because as soon as we got to the other side of town they were released and continued west) as we were still over 2 hours behind. Westbound traffic picked up on the east side of Toledo, however, and we were just able to make it down to the Lemoyne Road crossing in Northwood to grab NS 13N slowly coming into the Toledo Metra for a crew change.

NS 4287
Title:  NS 4287
Description:  Our friend Alex Walker was the conductor aboard 13Q today so we made sure we stuck around long enough to grab him. Sure enough, they were the next westbound lined in behind 23G, and we grabbed them coming off the wide connection off the Toledo District on the west side of Oak Harbor. After 13Q, we would call it a day since it was almost 7 PM (3 hours after check-in) We followed NS 258 into Sandusky but unfortunately were not able to get over and grab shots of them. Even though we got behind, we still got quite a bit of awesome stuff that we were both really pleased with! We closed the night with pizza, wings, and some arcade fun at the lodge. Was a fantastic first day!

NS 9724
Title:  NS 9724
Description:  Day 2 was waterpark day, so we spent a good majority of the morning and early afternoon in there. But, our eyes were constantly peeled to Facebook and ATCS, as NS 4005, 1072, and 8114 were all on trains that would be coming into the Sandusky area today. Usually I dont watch, or even want to watch trains while Im staying at Great Wolf, but I decided to make an exception to today. We went trackside around 2 PMish, making our first stop along the Chicago Line, as it looked like NS 258 with 4005 and 1072 would show before 267 with 8114 on the Sandusky District. Things were already popping off on the Chicago Line, and pretty much as soon as we arrived at the Amtrak station, NS 22V roared east. That was followed by this 35N about 5 or so minutes later.

A total of 11 trains in just 2 hours, with THREE specialty units was more than we could have asked for! I was a little worried wed spend more time trackside than in the lodge but I was wrong. TJ always seems to bring luck when we go on trips! After this we called it a day on trains and spent the remainder of the day in the arcade and bowling, plus a phenomenal supper at the Gitchigoomie Grill. Could not have asked for a better stay at my favorite place on earth with one of my best friends. I would also like to add that BNSF crushed CSX in the bowling match and the chances increased tenfold that they would be taking over CSX assets. (if you know, you know)

Description:  Check out at the hotel was at 11 AM, and I woke up at 10. Much later than I had wanted to. We were in a big rush to get everything out of the room, but afterwards since we were beginning so late anyway, we decided to stay a little longer in the lodge. I used up the remainder of my Paw Points and got a new air hockey table from the arcade. BNSF sealed the hostile takeover of CSX in bowling, and we bought some shirts in the gift shop before closing the 2023 Great Wolf Trip. Another phenomenal trip to my favorite destination. Train wise we started the day in Bellevue. TJ had to be home by 8 and we didnt even begin watching trains until after noon, so we had to rush things. We considered following NS south to Marion and CSX over to Muncie, but we decided to go with the original plan and follow the much busier CSX line back west then just drive south to Muncie on State Road 3. Our day began up on the Ohio 4 overpass overlooking the engine shops in Moorman Yard. Much emptier than it used to be here, but regardless, there was still some good stuff sitting out front.

NKP 329
Title:  NKP 329
Description:  No visit to Bellevue is complete without a quick visit to the Mad River and Nickel Plate Museum. While I have never actually been in the museum itself, most of the displays are accessible from the outside without actually having to pay to go into the museum. One day I will cave and check out the inside though, Im sure. NKP 329 is first in line. TJ was quite impressed with all the displays here.
