NS 8030
Title:  NS 8030
Description:  I was scheduled off work today to shoot basketball, but the tournament that I was scheduled for was postponed, which gave me a free day to do whatever I wanted. With snow on the ground, and above-average temperatures in store for the near future, I decided to take advantage of what snow that was on the ground and get some snow shots with some trains around Fort Wayne since I had not gotten any yet this year. CFE was running a sand train today with a KCS leader which was the main objective. The train was preparing to depart the yard once I had gotten up there, but a green signals for a westbound caught my eye and I decided to park alongside Fletcher Ave. to see what it was. A later than usual NS 255 started my day with a sole GEVO. If I would have known this was the train that was coming I probably would have tried to shoot it somewhere where it would be running at trackspeed. Im sure this lightweight train would have been kicking up the fresh powder nicely.

NS 4001
Title:  NS 4001
Description:  CFE 06 received a warrant west so it was time to get into place. I wanted to shoot it by the "Jesus, I Trust in You" sign by the ball diamond at Saint Patricks Catholic Church in Arcola. I got set up there, but at the same time, NS 262 keyed up dispatch and told him that they were ready to go as well. I knew 262 had NS 4001, one of two blue sonic bonnets, leading solo, so I quickly rushed over to Hamilton Road and got there just in time to get the train racing by the NKP codeline at trackspeed.

KCS 4707
Title:  KCS 4707
Description:  The sand train was holding out at Junction which thankfully gave me enough time to get back set up at the church in Arcola. While the snow can be fun to get photos in, it does make the roads a lot more tricky to navigate. I love seeing KCS power in super "out of place" territory. With the merger with CP ongoing their power has been showing up a lot more frequently than what it used to around here on unit trains and pool power agreements. Gotta get as many as I can before they decide to begin patching and repainting them!

CP 8646
Title:  CP 8646
Description:  NS 1073 was leading NS 199 on the Wabash, but they had already gotten through Fort Wayne before CFE 06 showed. Thankfully they did have work at Roanoke which gave me enough time to try to get down there. When I crossed the NKP in Dunfee I looked to my right to see what color the signals were. They were red as they usually are. But, when I looked to my right I had a "woh, hello!" moment. NS 60P was tied down with a pair of CP GEs.

NS 1073
Title:  NS 1073
Description:  The old wooden grain elevator at Roanoke was torn down (unknown to me at the time) and with the snow off the trees for the most part I decided that I would probably get the best shot at CP Mardenis east of Huntington where trains come around a big curve and head straight east into town. After about 40 minutes of waiting on them to finish up at Roanoke, NS 199 proceeded west. The Penn Central is one of my favorite heritage units to shoot. Ive always liked the simple paint scheme. It sure does need some help though.

Title:  NS 4000
Description:  Rushing over to HUGO, I grabbed NS 174 northbound on the New Castle District with NS 4000, the other blue sonic bonnet, leading a recently purchased CEFX leaser. Pretty neat to see both blue sonic bonnets leading on the same day!

Description:  I wasnt planning on going to East Wayne but a pair of high hoods on the yard job drug me over there. No crew and no sign of movement when I got there so other traffic was in store for me. L96 was first up with a SD60E leader.

NS 5231 and NS 5192
Title:  NS 5231 and NS 5192
Description:  There arent a lot of places on the NS system where you can find something like this anymore. East Wayne happens to be one of them for now. High hoods are a common sight around New Haven, but two of them together is quite a rarity.

NS 5231
Title:  NS 5231
Description:  Both of them were oil spillers. I couldnt get them to hold still long enough for me to get a shot where they were blowing their top off without a little motion blur. I thought this was pretty moody though and decided to keep it.
