Where there's smoke?
Title:  Where there's smoke?
Description:  Here is the freight car leaking the strange dust on the BNSF eastbound in question. Not something often seen in these parts. Crew of a westbound train soon was to come by and fix the leak.

Westbound Stopped To Lend A Hand
Title:  Westbound Stopped To Lend A Hand
Description:  This westbound soon came by and stopped so the conductor could lend a hand with the offending covered hopper. Nice to see that, despite CTC and all the other modern gadgest employed by the railways, there still is room for some good old fashioned railroader handiwork.

Title:  Westbound Freight Underway Again Passing Under Brown Road

Blast From The Past
Title:  Blast From The Past
Description:  As well as a covered hopper with a gimpy pipe, this train also had a former Western Pacific boxcar in the consist. A proud reminder of "The Willing People" and all the WP's glory.

Old Milwaukee At Wayzata
Title:  Old Milwaukee At Wayzata
Description:  This former Milwaukee Road caboose was part of a Loram work train parked at Wayzata the Sunday I caught it. Nice to see that familiar bay window profile, even in the garb of a new owner.

Which Paint Job Would You Choose?
Title:  Which Paint Job Would You Choose?
Description:  Now which job would you choose for your railroad? My vote would be the Warbonnet one! Was really lucky to catch this boy, for he was slowing down for a red signal, as I was not trackside when I first heard him.

Title:  Going Away Shot Of BNSF 131 and BNSF 4948

Title:  Coal And Water
Description:  Here comes an eastbound (loaded) unit coal train with SD70 MAC 9991 on the point. Got the Long Lake water tower into the composition from my perch on the Brown Road bridge. Guess you can say we got coal and water here, now all we need is a steam engine...

Title:  An Opening Act Before The Big Show
Description:  A brace of CP GE's race through Loretto with a westbound general freight. The next train behind them is the CP 2816! See my "Steam Trains" photo album for pictures. This train plus another that was in town for a crew change sure made a good opening act, though!

Waiting At Loretto
Title:  Waiting At Loretto
Description:  CP AC4400's 8615 and 9656 are the motive power on a eastbound train that arrived in Loretto shortly before I arrived this day and soon pulled down the siding to by a dirt parking lot by the tracks where a taxi showed up with a relief crew, as this town is a CP crew change point. The relief sure got to see a cool show when the CP Empress 4-6-4 Hudson stormed through with an excursion to Glenwood, MN. A shot of her passing these units can be found in my "Steam Trains" photo album.

Eastbound CP Train In Medina
Title:  Eastbound CP Train In Medina
Description:  CP ES44AC 8840 and AC4400 9560 wheel an eastbound grain or potash (could not tell which) train through the Hamel area of Medina, MN (Hamel once was it's own town but later merged with Medina though retained it's local name). Also was taken by surprise by this one, since no whistling is allowed in Hamel, the first warning I got from this and the other train I caught here this day was when the grade crossing gates began to ding!

Westbound Grain Train Waiting
Title:  Westbound Grain Train Waiting
Description:  As the signals down at the siding in Long Lake were still red, the hogger and conductor on this eastbound apparently had to wait for something. As I forgot to bring my scanner, I have no idea what it was. Anyway, it allowed me time to grab this and another shot of this job.

Description:  On this day I found on the spur track which branches off the Union Pacific's Golden Valley Industrial Lead down by the Medicine Lake Properties complex in eastern Plymouth this piece of Iowa, Chicago, and Eastern rolling stock. Since the Canadian Pacific was about to buy both the ICE and the Dakota, Minnesota, and Eastern, I deemed it worthy of a pic.

Thuroughbread Reflections
Title:  Thuroughbread Reflections
Description:  Brand-new NS GE 7622 and older GE 2695 rest on a ready track at East Minneapolis yard on a sunny Saturday morning. They were part of a larger lashup of power, consisting of one CN/IC unit (former IC with "IC" initals") and three UP units. They were detached, with the remainder of the power used for a train that is passing behind them in this shot. I could not get the tree branches out of the way on the left, but realized the pond reflection negated that problem nicely!

UP Brush Cutter
Title:  UP Brush Cutter
Description:  I found this MOW unit parked on a spur off the Golden Valley Industrial Lead in Plymouth, MN. Designation is "BBCT" and the number is "9604". Railfan colleagues have informed me this is a brush cutter. It has been hanging out here for some time, and judging by the brush next to it, been gainfully employed on the UP Golden Valley Industrial Lead. Interestingly enough, the spur it is on is seldom used, but still must merit brush removal.
