Album Info:This album contains pictures of some preserved (or not) old timer goods wagons of the South African Railways (SAR). Since the two sides of nearly all wagon types are different, I treated the side on which the vacuum pipes are mounted as Side B. SAR Class B-2 (Side A)
Title:  SAR Class B-2 (Side A)
Description:  Class B-2 wagons entered service between 1910 and 1916. It is a two door open wagon, designed for general goods and specifically bulk material like coal. This one, dating from 1913, is retired and on static display at the Women's Memorial.

Number range 1049 to 2496 (1910 to 1915), 3610 (in 1915) and 3694 and 5116 (in 1916), Length over headstocks 37' 0", Length between bogie pivot centres 24' 0", Height over end peaks 8' 10 1/16", Width 8' 3 3/4", Door width 8' 0", Tare (average) 33,040lb, Load 84,000lb (maximum) and 75,000lb (coal), Capacity 1,295 cu ft.

SAR Class Q-10
Title:  SAR Class Q-10
Description:  Class Q-10 short wagons entered service in 1966 and are designed to transport explosives. This one has long been grounded and now serves as a shed in the Ysterplaat yard.

Number range 169,101 to 169,200 (most short wagons were withdrawn from service before the present computerised wagon numbering system was introduced), Length over headstocks 22' 0", Length between axle centres 14' 0", Height 11' 0 1/16", Width 8' 3", Door width 4' 0", Tare (average) 22,600lb, Load 30,680lb, Capacity 930 cu ft.
