A dying breed
Title:  A dying breed
Description:  I was amazed to find a genuine B36-7 at Bryan Park. When I was a kid, there were always several of these and other of the older GE's in Seaboard System paint back here. Now this is the first one I have seen at this location in 5 years or more.

Bryan Park Shops
Title:  Bryan Park Shops
Description:  The shop building at Bryan Park. I was there back in 1993 when the cranes came and took down the massive "RF&P" sign, and replaced it with this now faded CSX sign. It's never been the same here since.

VEPCo Building
Title:  VEPCo Building
Description:  This was the first skyscraper in Richmond. So why is it on RRPicturearchives? When it was built it was the headquarters for VEPCo's Trolley system. A trolley station was located on the first floor, and main offices upstairs. Until the 1940s, large lights placed in cauldrons lit up the night sky from the top of the columns near the top of the building.

Main Street Station
Title:  Main Street Station
Description:  The Grande Dame of Richmond. It's hard to get good pictures of it smashed between I-95 and the C&O viaduct. This beauty from 1903 has survived floods, fires, and several changes of ownership, and is now open again as a passenger station, and is central to the city's plan of a revitalized "bottoms" district.

Rivanna Junction
Title:  Rivanna Junction
Description:  Here is where the C&O's James River Sub (at right) meets the C&O's Charlottesville line (left). The building right smack in the middle is home to some of the best pizza you will ever eat. Quality food, getting together with family, and primo trainwatching. Who could ask for more? Oh, and the triple track crossing is few blocks from here, and visible from the restaurant's second floor deck!

Main Street Station
Title:  Main Street Station
Description:  Main Street Station's landmark clock tower is visible from just about anywhere down in the bottoms, and stands in stark contrast to the modern skyscrapers that surround her. I was in Richmond two weeks after the tragic VPI shootings, hence the Commonwealth's flag at half mast.

Downtown
Title:  Downtown
Description:  A storm is moving in quickly. Of note in this picture is the crossing gaurd at the intersection of Railroad Ave. and England St. Traffic has become so dense on the little 2 lane road that these gaurds are needed to assist the many school busses that come through town. You can imagine who has the right of way. They also serve to prevent cars from gridlocking over the railroad, but are only present during the times the school busses are running.
