Old Albany Northern
Title:  Old Albany Northern
Description:  This is part of the old Albany Northern mainline in Cordele GA. Last year a portion of the line about a 1/2 mile in length was rehabed in anticipation of a new industry. It looks as though that didn't materialize and nature has again began to reclaim the line. This is looking towards Cordele at the highway crossing for the road that goes to Albany/Americus.

Old Albany Northern
Title:  Old Albany Northern
Description:  This is part of the old AN mainline that extends for about 1/2 mile from Cordele. Last year the line has seen considerable trackwork. The section you are looking at now was completly mowed of all grass that showed the new ties and ballast. An anticipated industry must not have come through as it looks like nature is again taking over. This is looking toward Albany. The line extends for another 500-600 feet from this spot. It now ends at the next street crossing.

Close up of sign in diner
Title:  Close up of sign in diner
Description:  Sign in the diner being restored at Tifton GA indicates further work to be done. I am assuming from the sign that when completed the diner will be named "The Royal Palm" which obviously pays homage to the passenger train of the same name that passed thru Tifton on it's Midwest to Florida run. Anyone know if plans are to return the car to operable condition in excursion service or will it be a static display?

Title:  Former ATSF diner
Description:  Former ATSF diner #1495, and former Amtrak 8040, at Tifton GA. Car was built by Budd in 1942 as a 36 seat diner and later reconfigured to a 48 seater. The car is currently lettered for the "Tifton Terminal Railway" as are a couple of cabooses nearby. There are indications of restoration on this car but I do not know how far the restoration is intended to go. Static display?? Excursions?? Anyone know??

Former CofG caboose
Title:  Former CofG caboose
Description:  The former Central of Goergia caboose at Tifton has gotten a new paint job and one that will not please the CofG fans. This car sits on blocks away from the railroad so it doesn't appear it will return to the rails anytime soon. The upper left side gives a phone number for rental information but I am not sure what it would be rented for. Birthday party's and such??? Sad fate for a relic of such a fine railroad. At least they could have returned it to it's CofG number.

Former ACL trackage
Title:  Former ACL trackage
Description:  We are looking west (toward Albany) on the former ACL at Tifton GA. The Southern (former GS&F) mainline is visible in the distance as is the eaves of the old GS&F depot. The former ACL trackage has been realigned so as to eliminate the at grade crossing. Ballast marks the route of the original trackage with the line now veering to the right (north) to tie into the Southern mainline.

Title:  Former AB&C (??) trackage
Description:  This appears to be former AB&C trackage at Tifton as it lines up with what I could find of the former roadbed. This view is looking south on the old AB&C and shows the crossing has been taken out and replaced with a track branching off the NS mainline. Perhaps this remnant now serves an industrial park or something of that nature. Anyone know??

Worthless crossing signals
Title:  Worthless crossing signals
Description:  This is just north of Cuthbert GA on the recently 4 laned U.S. 27. The rail line is part of the former SAL line that ran from Tallahassee to Columbus via Richland. If you look closely as the line goes towards the right you will see that the trackage is overgrown with weeds and trees. Thats because this line is actually abandoned at the the point seen here. There was a woodyard to the right of this photo but has been closed for many years. The rail line is never used BUT has received new crossing signals. What a waste of taxpayer dollars.
