Album Info:Includes action from Connellsville, Broadford, Owensdale, Everson, Lemont Furnace, Mount Braddock, and Scottdale, Pa. The trains in Connellsville, Pa are using CSX track rights. The SWP shortline railroad goes from Greensburg (Westmoreland County) to Smithfield (Fayette County). It uses branches that were originally CSX (B&O railroad before that) and also Conrail (PRR before that). It branches in various directions from here: Hunker to Yukon, Everson to Mount Pleasant, Everson to Connellsville Township, (coal line), Everson to Broadford, and Connellsville to Smithfield. The parent company of the SWP is Carload Express of Oakmont, PA.

Description:  A pair of GP11's cross over Broadford Road in Broadford, Pa, taking a train of 11 flatcars carrying Bradley M2 armored vehicles (with 3 buffer cars). One more crossing to go and then its onto CSX rails as train Z685-17. SWP 2001 GP11was built as IC 9333 in December 1957. SWP 2003 GP11 is a former JTPX 1801, IC 8705, ICG 8705, MBTA 7555, CR 7555, PC 7555, NH 1225. Built in August 1956.

Description:  A train with 11 flatcars carrying Bradley M2 armored vehicles has momentarily stopped at the signal just before one of several crossings of Broadford Road in Broadford, Pa. It is facing south here, and is less than half a mile away from the interchange with CSX where it will go east with the train number Z685-17. This rebuilt GP11 was built as IC 9333 in December 1957.

Description:  An EMD GP11 leading train Z685-04. This one had never been photographed by me yet. Even though it says AVR 2004, it was being referred on the radio as SWP 2004. Built as IC 9310 GP9 in December 1957. Also former ICG 8753 and RMPX 8753. This previously had Operation Lifesaver paint until late 2008.

Title:  AVR 4001
Description:  One of the newer acquisitions of the Allegheny Valley Railroad that has eluded me until now. Here it was going west with some speed on Track 1 past the Amtrak platform. The freight train was for the busy SWP Railroad. This rebuilt EMD GP40-3 is former CBQ 183 GP40 built in December 1966 and later became BN 3013 GP40, NHL 3013 GP40, KCS 4742 GP40/GP40-3.

Description:  On this snowy Sunday afternoon the SWP railroad attempted to make a run up the ex-B&O Sheepskin Branch with a train of loaded sand hoppers. That did not go according to plan. Over a foot of snow on the tracks made the train bog down in no time. It got as far as O&B Junction in Wheeler Bottom and here it sits. The conductor tries in vain to put sand onto the tracks. There was traction to be had. Maybe a Jordan Spreader, rotary plow or something similar would have been able to clear a path but it is not like the SWP owns anything like that. They eventually gave up and shoved their train backwards across Greene Junction to CSX. Other engines on the train were SWP 2001, SWP 2006, and AVR 2004.

Description:  A mixed freight train with four GP11's is idling in a snowstorm at O&B Junction in Wheeler Bottom, waiting for permission from CSX to go over to Greene Junction. The abandoned relay box on the right was from when this line was signaled and double tracked back in the B&O days.
