Columbia Sub Action
Title:  Columbia Sub Action
Description:  Northbound CSX local led by FL 3138 leaves the Siding and is about to cross the Augusta Sub at Fairfax, SC . Notice the unusual Signal to the right. It was known as a "Return to Train" Signal. It was a product of the SAL but saw little use after the SCL Merger as they were phased out. Back in the days of the Seaboard, they came in useful in the event of a communications failure. Crews could come back to their Train without having to call up the Dispatcher to get permission. There were also manual controls on the nearby Signal House to remotely operate the Signal as well. A very neat device and just another thing that made the SAL so unique!!!

Former SAL at Bladen, Georgia
Title:  Former SAL at Bladen, Georgia
Description:  CSX local makes the turn at Bladen, Georgia off the former Everett Sub for a quick run to Waycross via the Brunswick Sub. The end is near for the former SAL south of Bladen to Kingsland. This would be the last Train I would see operating here. It is October 28, 1989. My next visit in march 1990 would find the tracks being torn up. CSX wasted no time in removing the line, but later regretted the decision. The Train still operates today out of Waycross via the Jesup/Nahunta Sub. The cut Track here was the former siding at Bladen.
