Description:  Last week this train came through Syracuse late in the day on Saturday with a SOO engine in the lead, sorry to say that I missed it. I was happy to see it today with a red lease unit anyway! I have a going away shot of this lease unit in my "Roster shots 2012" album; it's in much better light. They're rolling under I-690 at around 14:30 hours here.

Title:  DME on EB ethanol
Description:  An eastbound ethanol train led by two Dakota, Minnesota & Eastern engines is tied down on the east end of the Belle Isle siding of CSX's Syracuse terminal-subdivision; right behind it (and out of view) on the same track is the K636 led by CEFX unit #1048. The train in the background on the left side of the frame is CSX's Q380, they're stopped on track 2 of the mainline at CP293. At 06:30 NF dispatch informed the Q380 that they would have a short hold here so that an eastbound Amtrak (280) could pass them and then they could procede as usual. I snapped this photo off at 07:30. So; they've been here for an hour or so, come to find out, because of signal/switch malfunctions. That has got to be very frustrating!

Description:  I caught word about the K635 (led by CP 5995) on the Riverline yesterday at 09:30 and I was hoping to catch it! So, here it is tied-down on the Belle Isle siding at CP296 where CSX's Syracuse terminal and Rochester subdivisions border-up. CSX engine #309 is leading the Q381 on track 1, and the Q112-17 is stopped on track 2 at CP294 waiting for authorization to run through a work zone.

Description:  You'd think this was a 3 mile train with all this power on it. It was long, but not 3 miles; and, according to what I heard only two of the engines were on-line. As I often do, I was checking the Belle Isle siding first thing this morning, I was on my way home when I caught this train leaving the west end of that very siding at CP296! Description:  The only reason I posted this shot is because of the color of the trees. Everyone around here knows how odd the weather has been this spring, with temperatures in the 70's back in March and such. I'm just struck by the red colors of the budding maples along with the light-greens of the young leaves of the aspens and similar species. Have I been missing something in my 45 years, or is this display of color unusual for this time of year? Anyway, that's the Q004 led by CSX engine #7859 shot from Rt. 31 looking across the New York State Thruway.

He knew this westbound train was on the way, so we searched for a spot that would be favorable for less than ideal lighting. We settled on this field off of Towpath Rd. behind the Weedsport Speedway. When you're looking east down the tracks at 09:50 in the morning the sun is kinda in your face, so stepping back to the south is about the best you can do here; and so here it is......... the K693-24! And to think that 10 minutes before it came through I was gonna head into the village for a snack; Jack strongly suggested that we stay-put.......good call!!!
