Not staged
Title:  Not staged
Description:  Really....NYSW ran 142 for short trips during the Broome County Fair, held in Whitney Point. This trip was approaching the NY 79 crossing when the Buick came along. The driver saw several of us there taking photos and stopped. All of us-maybe a half dozen-waved him into the photo, making for this classic. Considering all the cars that ever got into a photo, this is the one we wanted in it-hes the guy that stops.

River Road running
Title:  River Road running
Description:  NYSW 142 rolls along River Rd, which follows the tracks from Messengerville into Blodgett Mills. Easy run on the train, not so much on the road, as it seems to be either muddy or full of ruts.

Ready any time
Title:  Ready any time
Description:  NYSW 142 has taken on water and coupled back to its train, and is now ready to head for Cortland to tie up for the day. Even the train had a large NY component-the first five cars all came off the LIRR. Theyre not old enough to have been pulled by one of Long Islands G 5s, but have run lots of miles behind Alcos. The roof of the DLW station can be seen behind the train.

South end
Title:  South end
Description:  The south end of the Broome County Fair train got almost no attention, though an SD45 was always a good subject for a photo. The trailing diesel was used to facilitate a pull-pull operation, as there was nowhere to turn the train on the line. The rear end is seen passing the flood wall in Lisle in a scenic setting.

150th Anniversary trip
Title:  150th Anniversary trip
Description:  In 2004, the NYSW ran a pair of Syracuse-Binghamton trips to mark the 150th anniversary of predecessor Syracuse Binghamton & NY. They ran Binghamton-Syracuse and return on Saturday, the opposite on Sunday, with the 142, M&E FL9s and a couple of NYSW units. Heres Saturdays train crossing the Chenango River. I must have been running out on the NY 12A bridge and just made the shot, its a little off level.

Run by
Title:  Run by
Description:  True to form for the Tier, the weather for the trip I rode was dreadful, cold and rainy. I rode Sunday's trip, originating in Syracuse. They ran a couple of runbys along the way, one in Tully, the other here at Lisle. We see the train smoking it up as it comes out from under the I 81 overpass. The photo line is standing on the flood wall that keeps the Tioghnioga River from periodically inundating Lisle and Whitney Point. The NYSW was optimistic by putting the 4006 as lead diesel. This is the unit that crunched a dump truck at a grade crossing during the 1988 NRHS convention.
