Title:  NJT 4500
Description:  NJ Transit held an official unveiling of their new "dual-powered" locomotive at Newark Penn Station on 5/11/11. The ALP-45DP is touted as the "first of its kind in North America" (FL9 notwithstanding). These locomotives will be able to operate as a typical diesel-electric in non-electrified territory or as a straight electric locomotive, drawing power from overhead catenary. There are currently 26 on order and they will be constructed in Germany.

Description:  As part of the ongoing testing and software debugging process with their new ALP-45DP locomotives, NJT operated this test train on the Raritan Valley Line. Of course, the weather never seems to cooperate with moves like this. These locomotives seem very tall when paired with older single level equipment.
