Southbound NKP 765 and NS Employee Appreciation Train
Title:  Southbound NKP 765 and NS Employee Appreciation Train
Description:  Nickel Plate 765 smartly steps over the Sangamon River Bridge and out of a foggy Decatur, a former Wabash Shop Town, leading NS Train 099 on the NS Brooklyn District after an overnight layover on its way to St. Louis for employee appreciation excursions. 765 rolling around the distant curve was the first time I had ever laid eyes on it and I probably won't soon forget that. Trailing the steam engine are the NS's ITC and WAB Heritage Locomotives. Shot on black and white print film.

Southbound NKP 765 and NS Employee Appreciation Train
Title:  Southbound NKP 765 and NS Employee Appreciation Train
Description:  Making 40 MPH now, the Nickel Plate Road Berkshire has NS Train 099 well in hand and is headed for St. Louis on the NS Brooklyn District.

The sound 765 and her eerily Frisco 1522-esque steamboat style Wabash Whistle made as it rolled by 1/8th of a mile away legitimately gave me chills and made the hair stand up on my arms. Choo choos don't do that to me very often anymore, but I think part of it has something to do with this being 10 years to the month of SLSF 1522 being parked for the last time. It was nice to hear that again.

Southbound NKP 765 and NS Employee Appreciation Train
Title:  Southbound NKP 765 and NS Employee Appreciation Train
Description:  The whistle from 2-8-2 Mikado WAB 2202 echoes out across the countryside as the Nickel Plate 2-8-4 Berkshire #765 passes the Wabash Searchlights on the NS Brooklyn District at the north end of Taylorville with NS Train 099.

The whistle sounded eerily similar to the one Frisco 1522 used to carry, and brought back memories of a September 10 years ago, when 1522 ran its last excursions. Trailing the steam engine are the NS's ITC and WAB Heritage Locomotives.

Former SLSTA Crew Cars
Title:  Former SLSTA Crew Cars
Description:  These were the crew cars used by the St. Louis Steam Train Association behind Frisco 1522 during its excursion career. In April 2012, the Friends of 261 in the Twin Cities acquired these cars for use behind operating steamer MILW 261.

Scullin Disc Driver
Title:  Scullin Disc Driver
Description:  Frisco had a thing for Scullin Disc Drivers, and used them on a few classes of engines, and as main drivers on other classes. 1522 was one of those engines, and it always had a distinctive look with the mismatched Scullin among the other spoke drivers.

SLSF 1522 - Baldwin 4-8-2
Title:  SLSF 1522 - Baldwin 4-8-2
Description:  Baldwin 4-8-2 Mountain, built in 1926 for the Frisco. Engine was restored between 1985 and 1988 and operated in excursion service until September 2002. One of the reasons I came out to the MOT was to spend a little time with 1522, being that this is 10 years to the month to the last time it had a a fire in the box. It sure is hard to believe that in a short 4 years, she will have been idle in her second retirement for the same amount of time that she was active in her second career.
