SCL exited the piggyback business in Dothan in the mid 1980's and for a while the H&S railroad operated a ramp on the west side of Dothan. This lasted about a year and when it closed brought about an end to intermodal activity in Dothan except for something passing through. |

Rather than have blades that raised up and down, this entire mast would turn thereby either indicating proceed or stop. The pole extended down into the train order operators office where he could turn it based on whether he had train orders for a train or not. |

This depot was built in the early 1960's when the paper mill was built at Cedar Springs and Saffold became the junction point between the ACL and the CIRR which served the paper mill. Behind me is the wye which leads to the joint CIRR/ACL yard. We are looking toward Alabama in this photo. Note the train order boards in this photo. |
