Album Info:In March 1975, I was able to go through Macon Terminal Station. The Southern Rwy had recently moved their Coastal Division offices out and into a new office building a few blocks away. The station had not seen a passenger train since the final departure of the Nancy Hanks II, April 30, 1971. All of the platforms had been removed, the tunnel sealed up and only one station track remained. However, the inside of the station, while dirty and mostly unused, was still in it's original configuration. The quality of these are not very good as I had not been taking color slide pictures, only B&W pictures and was just trying to shoot what I could. I know they were taken in March 1975, I just don't know the exact date.

One station track remained. The mainline is to the right. (I had to turn this into B&W because of it's condition)

The concourse in the rear is open. Station entrance on the left. You can see the sealed up passage to the tunnel under the tracks on the right. Straight ahead is a ramp to the remaining platform.

Macon Terminal Station Today! At least it was saved. The City is hopeful there will be passenger service serving it again - and soon.
