Album Info:On October 25 of 2012 I was lucky enough to take a Hi-Rail trip from Tupper Lake to Saranac Lake along with a few invited politicians and local media. A large press conference was then held at the Saranac Union Station. We then took a free train ride from Saranac Lake to Lake Placid and return.

Rt 30 crossing.
Title:  Rt 30 crossing.
Description:  In New York Central and Olympic days there was a highway overpass here. When the bridge needed replacing in the early 1980's it was simply removed. Since no trains were running a crossing was not even installed and the track stopped roughly where the fresh ballast begins. This new crossing was put in place prior to operations starting back up in Lake Placid in 2000.

Lake Placid branch

Description:  The kink in the track and the long ties indicate that we have left the former Adirondack Division Mainline and entered the Lake Placid branch. The the main line would have continued north from here to Malone, NY and eventually Montreal. That section was abandond in 1960 and the line became just a branch to Lake Placid that it is today.
