Album Info:The Delaware & Hudson until 1976 served New York State as a bridge route to Montreal and the anthracite region of northeastern Pennsylvania. When the USRA plan of having Chessie System and the Norfolk & Western provide competition for Conrail faltered, at the last minute the Delaware & Hudson (which was struggling but not bankrupt) stepped in and operated a number of key routes. It was taken over by Guilford in 1984 and declared bankruptcy in 1988. Since 1991 it has been a subsidiary of the Canadian Pacific Railway.

Description:  The motive power for NE84/87 resting at East Side Yard in September 1977. This former Lehigh Valley EMD GP38-2 has been "re-lettered" for the D&H by (1) placing a band of two-inch wide tape through the massive LEHIGH VALLEY on the long hood, (2) adding, again in tape, a 7 in front of the 322 on the cab side, (3) adding small D&H stencils on the short hood and (4) painting out the LV on the front and back diamonds and painting in D&H. A cheap and cheery job.
