Trouble Brewing
Title:  Trouble Brewing
Description:  NS train 21T, a Harrisburg to Kansas City stack train, crosses Luetkenhaus Boulevard as it departs Wentzville MO after a meet with eastbound no111. About two hours later it would have a power failure near Benton City and tie up the entire railroad, requiring some fancy footwork by the dispatcher to rescue it. On top of that, and in spite of the clear blue skies here, was the forecast for up to a foot of snow on the way. It's just another day on the railroad.

112 Pulls Out of Wentzville
Title:  112 Pulls Out of Wentzville
Description:  NS train 112 pulls out of Wentzville MO on 4 January after tacking a bunch of autoracks from the GMC plant on its back end. It's behind train 21T and headed for Moberly. The dispatcher has given it clearance to Benton City, 57 miles away, where it's supposed to meet an eastbound. Unknown at this point is that the train ahead, 21T, will die along the way, making a hash of things for the operating force.

The Depot at Fulton
Title:  The Depot at Fulton
Description:  The brick depot at Fulton MO still stands at Walnut and 10th and although the tracks are still in they are covered with weeds. The original 50-mile branch was built by the Louisiana & Missouri River RR for the Chicago & Alton in 1872 from Mexico to the Missouri River at Cedar City, placing it opposite the state capital at Jefferson City. In 1933 the line's southern 24 miles were abandoned, leaving it intact to Fulton. Since operated by the Alton and a series of other roads, the line's current owner is Ozark Valley although there hasn't been a train south of Auxvasse (12 miles north) for years. The structure is now occupied by an adjacent business and used for storage. Timetables show mixed train service as late as 1941 and "frieght service only" thereafter.
