| Description: |
A pair of NYSW units sandwich a "plum" as we often called the blue PLM lease units, as it is about the finish the steady climb ot Gulf Summit. This is SLN 5, today with 115 stack platforms and a lone conventional freight car. Once over the top, its 35 miles and a ride across Starrucca to get to Binghamton, where a CP crew will take over for the trip to Buffalo. Note the trailing unit, NYSW 4040. This is one of the CSX financed units that served on the NYSW during the directed service of the D&H. It will soon be returning to CSX. |

Up til the trees grew too high, it was possible to shoot a train heading for the tunnel from Tunnel Rd between NY 7 and Moottown. I was able to take advantage of this to get a shot of this 390 clawing its way uphill at Dyes siding with a PLM unit leading three SOO SDs. |

Most trains were not heavy enough to get pushers out of Scranton, and practice was to put the tonnage on and drag it up to Clarks Summit with the road power. Still, some trains got helpers, such as this 555. They would stay on all the way to Binghamton. |
