Kansas City Southern GP40 754 was parked at WEST YARD, just outside of New Orleans. It had been built in October 1968 as Penn Central 3180 (EMD 34621) and was acquired by the KCS in January 1984, after its initial 15-year lease expired. It was renumbered 4754 in early 1991 and was eventually sent it to Morrison- Knudsen’s BOISE LOCOMOTIVE SHOP as partial payment for upgrading 16 GP40’s into GP40M-2’s 4780-4795 in late 1991. M-K remanufactured it into MARC GP40WH-2 number 55 in May 1994. |
