Description:  Aerotrain. Here is a duplicate 35mm color slide by an unidentified photographer that was taken in Altoona, Pennsylvania, in 1956. Shown here is the Pennsylvania Railroad's "Aerotrain," built by General Motors during July of 1955. After departing Pittsburgh and crossing the Allegheny Mountains via the Horseshoe Curve, it has stopped at the Altoona Passenger Station for a crew change and to discharge/pick-up passengers. Soon, it will pass under the 12th Street Footbridge on its way to Philadelphia and New York City. The structures in the background are part of the PRR's 12th Street Car Shops.

Description:  How are 1958 Corvettes, GM Motorama dream cars & the Pennys Aerotrain related? All were designed by Chuck Jordan who eventually became VP of General Motors Design. Unfortunately, the Aerotrain was not successful - lightweight but underpowered, sleek looking but hard riding - ultimately rejected by most of the railroads. With the help from William Rodkey's comments (below), this was taken in Philadelphia during the year long test by the PRR. Date is approximate. The syle still looks great to me
