SAL 4-6-2 #851 - Seaboard Air Line
Title:  SAL 4-6-2 #851 - Seaboard Air Line
Description:  Nice 1911 Alco-Richmond built Pacific. Interesting note on the back of the photo states "Dieckel Experimental Valve Gear". Nothing came up on a search for Dieckel. Does anyone have information about this valve gear? SAL 2-10-0 #514 sits behind #851. Specifics - class P, 72" drivers, 195 psi boiler pressure, 23x28" cylinders, engine weight of 223,000 lb, tractive effort of 34,098 lb. The town listed on the back was "Fax" but no such location could be found. As Mike Woodruff mentions (see comment below), "Fax" may actually be "Jax" for Jacksonville, FL. Makes sense - might be another example of poor penmanship at work! Unknown photographer.
