Prominent here is Pennsylvania Railroad engine #559, an L-1S (2-8-2) "Mikado" built in Juniata in November of 1914 and retired in August of 1959. In this context, it awaits its next helper/pusher run out of Thorndale. Partially visible at the right is PRR engine #9412, an ES-6 switcher built by GM-END in October of 1950 and rated at 600 horsepower. |

It was published originally in the Fall 1996 issue of "Vintage Rails" magazine, page 84. Top Photo: Shown here (L to R) are PRR engines #1670, #94, #460, and #6755; all are presently on display at the Railroad Museum of Pennsylvania in Strasburg. #1670 is a B-6SB (0-6-0) switcher built in Juniata in March of 1916. #94 is an A-5S (0-4-0) switcher built in Juniata in January of 1917. #460 is an E-6S (4-4-2) "Atlantic" built in Juniata in August of 1914.
