Description:  Powerful, fast and reliable are three wods that explain why this K-4s 4-6-2 Pacific class dominated Pennsy passenger service for decades. Built by the PRR Juniata Shops in June of 1923 (serial #3765), it ran service for nearly 25 years before being scrapped in April of 1948 when diesels began appearing on the system. J.R. Description:  Here is page 19 of a 40-page booklet published by Harry P. Albrecht entitled "A Picture Study Of The K-4." First issued in October 1967, revised in September 1976. Three of the locomotives pictured here are Pennsylvania Railroad K-4S (4-6-2) "Pacifics." Top Photo: #5475 was built in Juniata during September of 1927 and retired in April of 1958. Bottom Photo: #3870 was built in Juniata during June of 1923 and retired in April of 1948, while #5440 was built by the Baldwin Locomotive Works during March of 1927.
