NOPSI 921
Title:  NOPSI 921
Description:  New Orleans Public Service car 921 was turning on the loop at the foot of Canal Street, the beginning of the CANAL car line. The automobiles on the left were waiting for a New Orleans Public Belt train to pass so they could get to a ferry boat landing on the Mississippi River, and on the other side of these autos was the administration building for the Port of New Orleans. In the center background was the north end of the Louisville & Nashville’s JULIA STREET YARD, and beyond there were wharves along the river and several banana unloading machines. In the right background, with the L&J Wines sign, was the Standard Warehouse Co building (which was leased from the Southern Pacific); in the right foreground was a liquor distributor in the 100-block of Canal Street, and on the right was the LIBERTY MONUMENT. The 921 had been built by the Perley A. Thomas Car Works in 1924 and is still in operation on the ST. CHARLES line in 2020. (approximate date of photo)
