Delivered to Louisville & Nashville as L&N 4072 GP38-2 in September 1972 becoming Seaboard System (SBD) 4072 in January 1983 then renumbered SBD 2582 a year later. With the Chessie System/Seaboard System merger this diesel would become CSX 2582 in April 1986 then sold to Helm Leasing in February 1998 then rebuilt by Metro East Industries intended for Southern Pacific as SP 4847 but completed as Union Pacific 1973. Union Pacific took delivery of this unit on February 19, 1998, renumbered UP 473 on June 27, 2001, then retired on October 13, 2003. In this photo HLCX is being serviced after delivering a Southern Pacific train to Miller Yard in South Dallas. |
