| Description: |
San Diego & Arizona Eastern Railway SW8 1126 at San Diego, California on February 11, 1984, Kodachrome by Chuck Zeiler. Note that in addition to the usual air horns, this unit is equipped with an air whistle. Number 1126 was built for the Southern Pacific in July 1953 (c/n 18356) and was equipped with dynamic brakes. The intention was to use the SW8's on the Northwestern Pacific, however, the NWP assignments fell to SD7's. The d/b equipped SW8's were reassigned to the Pacific Electric, where the dynamic brakes were of little use. Number 1126 was sold October 31, 1979 to Kyle Railways, assigned to the SD&AE, and in November 1984 was renumbered to 1101 and moved to Kansas. |

SP SW8 1125 and SD&EA SW8 1126 at San Diego, California on February 11, 1984, Kodachrome by Chuck Zeiler. Unfortunately, I left my clutter filter at home. Both units are/were SP SW8's equipped with dynamic brakes for use on the Northwestern Pacific. They were quickly replaced by SD7's, these two units were re-assigned to the SD&AE. |
