Built by GE in March of 1940 as PRR 4889. Upon the merger of PRR and NYC, it became Penn Central 4889 seen here with the large "mating worms" logo. Eventually it slid over to the Conrail roster as CR 4889 where it was finally retired in February of 1980 and scrapped. No photographer was listed for the photo. |

In my first picture ever with a borrowed Kodak Instamatic I am grateful to have captured my favorite locomotive, the GG1! With the G's quietly humming along, you could easily miss them. I made it up the hill to the Trenton Cutoff at the last second to see PC GG1 4889 roar through with a doubleheaded TV train on August 1, 1976. |
