KCS train No. 53 is on the CSX with an NS crew as it crosses the NS at N.E. Tower. NS engineer Dave Honold is photographing the photographer, while CSX operator Earl Hampton gives the train a roll-by inspection. No. 53 originated in Dallas and will terminate at the CSX Gentilly Yard, just two miles away. Today's train has GP40 757 (ex-Conrail), GP40 778 (ex-ICG), and GP40-2 799 (built new for the KCS). N.E. Tower was closed in September 1990, and control of the crossing was transferred to the NS in Birmingham |
