Description:  Slope to Works. Here is an original photo that I took of a Pennsylvania Railroad train between SLOPE and WORKS Towers in Altoona, Pennsylvania, on 06 June 1965. Shown here (R to L) are PRR engines #8612, #8613, and #8614. All are AS-24M's built by the American Locomotive Company in 1956 and rated at 2,400 horsepower each. They are pushing a mixed-cargo freight train past SLOPE Tower and under the 24th Street Bridge on their way up the Allegheny Mountains to Gallitzin, where they will uncouple and return to East Altoona for yet another helper/pusher run.

Description:  Rainy. Here is an original photo that I took of Pennsylvania Railroad trains in Altoona, Pennsylvania, on 12 October 1965. Shown here (R to L) are PRR engines #8614, #8609, #9866, #9852-B, #9641-B, and #9860. #8614 and #8609 were built by the American Locomotive Company in 1956 and rated at 2,400 horsepower each; #8614 is an AS-24M, but #8609 is an APS-24MS; they are serving as "helpers" in this context. #9866, #9852-B, #9641-B, and #9860 were built by EMD and rated at 1,500 horsepower each. #9866, #9852-B, and #9860 are EFP-15's built in 1952. #9641-B is an EF-15A built in 1950. They are threading the 14th Street interlocking on their way up the New Portage/Muleshoe Curve route with a 95-car iron-ore train. The caboose is N-5C #477898. Also visible (L to R) are the Altoona Passenger Station, the 12th Street Bridge, a westbound passenger train about to depart, an eastbound passenger train in the process of departing, and several of the PRR's 12th Street Shop buildings. Description:  Winter Day. Here is an original telephoto view that I took of Pennsylvania Railroad locomotives in Altoona, Pennsylvania, during February of 1966. Shown here (L to R) are PRR engines #8616 and #8614. Both are AS-24M's built by the American Locomotive Company in 1956 and rated at 2,400 horsepower each. They are passing the Altoona Passenger Station on their way back to East Altoona after making a helper/pusher run up the Allegheny Mountains via the Horseshoe Curve to Gallitzin and back. Visible behind them is the PRR Test Plant building.

Both were built by the American Locomotive Company. #8614 is an AS-24M built in 1956 and rated at 2,400 horsepower. #8667 is an AS-18AM built in 1958 and rated at 1,800 horsepower. They are pushing a westbound mixed-cargo freight. Also note the day-glow orange N-5C caboose #477825, as well as the Santa Fe Railroad refrigerator car.
