Title:  Amtrak Cascades Inbound
Description:  The engineer and conductor of Washington DOT 1401 wave as their train glides across the Columbia River and into Vancouver. The train is running on time, and will depart just minutes later. The bridge that carries the tracks across the Columbia River is the Burlington Northern Bridge 9.6, built in 1908 by the Spokane Portland & Seattle Railway. The bridge has a 467 foot swing span, allowing boats to pass below.

Title:  Amtrak Crosses The Columbia
Description:  Looking down the length of the BN 9.6 Bridge, we see Amtrak Cascades #504 approaching on the northbound main. The train is led by Siemens Charger 1401, and will soon be slowing for its Vancouver station stop. As the passenger train approaches, an inspection crew makes their rounds on the south main. This bridge was built in 1908, and has been in constant service since then carrying trains across the Columbia River.

Title:  Amtrak and BNSF Crowd The South End
Description:  The south end of the Vancouver yard is hopping with activity. Preparing to depart the station is Amtrak Cascades #504. The Vancouver Center signal bridge (right) shows green-over-red, giving permission for the train to depart. The train will take the northbound main track (Seattle Subdivision Main 2) to its next stop at Kelso. Simultaneously, a grain train is entering the Vancouver wye from the east (out of frame). This train will follow the Amtrak northbound after a crew change. A yard switcher, BNSF 2236, drills the south end of the yard in the meantime (headlight visible at right). On a sidetrack, BNSF 2674 is fired up prior to its next assignment.

Title:  NPCU In The Lead
Description:  Amtrak 90250 leads a southbound Cascades service into Tukwila station. 90250 was built in 1977 as an F40PHR, using parts from trade-in SDP40Fs. When the F40s were bumped from mainline duties by GE Genesis locomotives, this unit was rebuilt without and engine as an Non-powered control unit (NPCU). This unit has been assigned to the Amtrak Cascades service for several years at this point, and is leading a set of Horizon cars today.
