So, not all photos of ATSF 5502 are of the same unit. Seen here is the original SD45B numbered 5502, released from San Bernardino shops in December 1983. This unit ran until July 1986. when it was wrecked and later retired. Another SD45u (ATSF 5340) was in the shops at the time and was converted into a SD45B. It was released in October 1986 as ATSF 5502. Any photos of ATSF 5502 taken between December 1983 and July 1986 are of the this unit, the original ATSF 5502. Any photos after October 1986 are of the replacement unit, the former ATSF 5340. |
