Description:  UP Big Boy 4-8-8-4 4014 pulling into the yard in Evanston, WY. The train was delayed entering the yard by some recently placed boulders which presented a clearance issue as the 4014 entered the yard. The backhoe on the far left was brought in to move the boulders, and the train was able to continue. Quick thinking and reaction by the crew prevented damage to 4014 on its maiden voyage after rebuilding.

UP ordered 25 "Big Boy" locomotives between 1941 and 1944. The frame is “articulated” with two sets of driving wheels, perfect for negotiating tight mountain turns. 4014 was built in 1941, last steamed in 1959. It eventually was restored to operation, converted to run with oil and put in service specifically for use during the anniversary celebrations in 2019. 844 was UP's last steam locomotive purchased in 1944 and has never been retired and also was converted to run with oil. UP ordered 25 "Big Boy" locomotives between 1941 and 1944. The frame is “articulated” with two sets of driving wheels, perfect for negotiating tight mountain turns. 4014 was built in 1941, last steamed in 1959. It eventually was restored to operation, converted to run with oil and put in service specifically for use during the anniversary celebrations in 2019. 844 was UP's last steam locomotive purchased in 1944 and has never been retired and also was converted to run with oil.
