Description:
This Baldwin built 2-8-2 locomotive was a class Q-3 and originally carried the number 4531 but in 1957, it was renumbered BO 330. Sadly the loco was retired and scrapped a year later in August of 1958 at Newark, NJ. Specs - serial #49467, class Q-3, 64" drivers, 200 psi boiler pressure, 26x30" cylinders, engine weight of 292,000 lb, tractive effrort of 53,800 lb. Bob Rathke was the original photographer and this print appears in several webpages.

Description:
Nice to post a photo of a Hoosier based locomotive like this B&O 2-8-2 Mikado #454. Built by Baldinw in December of 1922, it was originally numbered BO 4481 but rebuilt in 1941 with 70" drivers, a new tractive effort of 65,500 lb and reclassified as Q-4C. It lasted until being retired in December of 1958 at the Willard, Ohio yard. Long before a GP40 wore the B&O number 4041, this Baldwin 2-8-2 Mikado had the honor. Built in April of 1911, it was rebuilt and reclassified several times during its years of service. The loco was retired and scrapped in May of 1954 at Fairmont, WV. Specs - serial #36408, class Q-1, 64" drivers, 205 psi boiler pressure, 24x32" cylinders, engine weight of 276,050 lb, tractive effort of 50,184 lb. Sitting in what appears to be a dead/scrap line is Baltimore & Ohio 2-8-2 Mikado #4418. Built by Baldwin in March of 1921, B&O 2-8-2 Mikado #4408 served the railroad for nearly 37 years before being retired and scrapped in March of 1958 at Mt Clare yard in Baltimore, MD. Just prior to being scrapped, it was assigned a new number of B&O #410 but probably wasn't actually renumbered before the scrapper's torch hit it. MD. BO 2-8-2 #4438 - Baltimore & Ohio
Description:
With a trail of smoke heading skyward, this Baldwin Pacific built between 1920-22 moves through the B&O yard at Garrett, Indiana on this day in 1955. The Q-4 class loco had 64" drivers, developed 190 psi boiler pressure for its 26"x32" cylinders (dia & stroke). With an engine weight of 327,400 lb, it generatred a tractive effort of 63,206 lb. All in the class were scrapped by 1951, Harry Zillmer captured this moment in time.

Description:
Great action shot of B&O 2-8-2 Mikado #4439 heading up a long drag of loaded coal cars. The loco was equally suited for passenger service as well.Late in its life, it was assigned the new number of BO #424 in 1957 but probably wasn't actually relabeld as it was retired and scrapped in December of 1957 in New Castle, PA. Specs - Q-4 class, 64" drivers, 220 psi boiler pressure, 26x32" cylinders, engine weight of 327,400 lb, tractive effort of 63,200 lb. No date, location or hotographer was listed for the photo so arbitrary onew were used.

Although no location, date or photographer was listed, it appears that this loco may be in the Mt Clare yard in Baltimore, OH, where the ornate heavyweight passenger car to the left was stored. This 2-8-2 Mikado was built by Baldwin in April of 1921 as Baltimore & Ohio #4442. The solid locomotive served the B&O for nearly 35 years before being retired in November of 1956 at the Mt Clare, MD yard. Specs - class Q-4, 64" drivers, 220 psi boiler pressure, 26x32" cylinders, engine wt of 327,400 lb, tractive effort of 63,200 lb. An approximate date was used for thie photo.

Description:
Built by Baldwin in April of 1921 as BO 2-8-2 #4443 (serial #54713), it served for nearly 37 years. To make room for new diesels in the roster (like the one next to it in the photo), it was renumbered BO #427 in 1957. It met the scrapper's torch in May of 1958 at the Willard OH yard. Specs - Q-4 class, 64" drivers, 220 psi boiler pressure, 26x32" cylinders, engine weight of 327,400 lb, tractive effort of 63,200 lb. No exact date in 1955 was given and no photographer was listed.

Here is a 2-8-2 Mikado built by the Baldwin Locomotive Works in September of 1922 as B&O #4462 (serial #55678). It served in both freight and sometimes passenger service for nearly 36 years before being retired in January of 1958 at Fairmont, WV. In 1957, it was renumbered to BO #440 for a short while before meeting the scrapper's torch. Here is a solid looking 2-8-2 Mikado caught standing outside the Glenwood Shops area in Philadelphia, PA. Built by Baldwin in December of 1922 as Baltimore & Ohio #4480 (serial #55869), it was versatile in freight and passenger service. Unfrotunately after nearly 35 years of service, it was retired and scrapped in August of 1957 at the Mt Clare yard in Baltimore, MD Just prior to retirement, the loco was assigned a new number #453 but probably was not actually renumbered before the scrapper's torch came calling.
