Title:  SLSF 4-6-4 #1060 - St Louis-San Francisco
Description:  Fair quality photo of St Louis-San Francisco 4-6-4 Hudson #1060. Originally built in 1917 by Baldwin as a 4-6-2 Pacific, the SLSF West Springfield shops rebuilt it in 1937 to a more powerful 4-6-4 Hudson. This one even has the wide side valence above the running gear. The entire class 1060 was "dismissed from service" between 10/23/1950 and 1/23/1952 and this loco was scrapped midway in December of 1951. Hudson specs - serial #45358, 74" drivers, 225 psi boiler pressure, 26x28" cylinders, engine weight of 360,960 lb, tractive effort of 48,919 lb. Arthur B. Johnson photo

SLSF 4-6-4 #1062 - St Louis-San Francisco
Title:  SLSF 4-6-4 #1062 - St Louis-San Francisco
Description:  Beautiful example of the St Louis-San Francisco West Springfield Shops rebuilding a 1917 Baldiwn 4-6-2 Pacific into a more powerful 4-6-4 Hudson in 1937. Note the "semi-streamlined" look achieved by the addition of the wide side valence above the running gear of this freshly rebuilt loco. Clever and inexpensive! The Hudson served until it was scrapped in January of 1952. Hudson specs - serial #45464, 74" drivers, 225 psi boiler pressure, 26x28" cylinders, engine weight of 360,960 lb, tractive effort of 48,919 lb. R. Wolf took the photo while the loco was in the 19th Street yard.

Description:  Fair quality photo of the rebuilt St Louis-San Francisco 4-6-4 Hudson #1062. Initially the loco started out as a 1917 Baldwin 4-6-2 Pacific but the SLSF West Springfield Shops undertook rebuilding the entire 1060 class into 4-6-4 Hudsons in 1937. Note the wide valence on the side - an inexpensive homage to streamlining. The loco was scrapped in January of 1952. SLSF 4-6-4 #1063 - St Louis-San Francisco
Title:  SLSF 4-6-4 #1063 - St Louis-San Francisco
Description:  This strong St Louis-San Francisco 4-6-4 Hudson #1063 is showing some road grime but still looks solid. Initially Baldwin built this loco as a 4-6-2 Pacific in 1917 but the SLSF West Springfield Shops rebuilt it into the more powerful 4-6-4 Hudson seen here. It served as a Hudson until dieselization killed it. This loco met up with the scrapper's torch in January of 1952. SLSF 4-6-4 #1064 - St Louis-San Francisco
Title:  SLSF 4-6-4 #1064 - St Louis-San Francisco
Description:  A note on the back of the photo states "Action shot of Local #6 for St Louis." Originally built by Baldwin in 1917 as a 4-6-2 Pacific, the SLSF West Springfield Shops in 1937 undertook the task of converting the 1060 class into more powerful 4-6-4 Hudsons. Note the lack of the wide side valence that first appeared on the rebuilds. By this time it was removed on several HudsonsAfter serving nearly 15 years as a Hudson, it met with the scrapper's torch in January of 1952, a casuality of the dieselization. Hudson specs - serial #45466, 74" drivers, 225 psi boiler pressure, 26x28" cylinders, engine weight of 360,960 lb, tractive effort of 48,919 lb. Arthur B. SLSF 4-6-4 #1065 - St Louis-San Francisco
Title:  SLSF 4-6-4 #1065 - St Louis-San Francisco
Description:  This St Louis-San Francisco 4-6-4 Hudson #1065 looks like it just stepped out of the SLSF West Springfield Shops after its rebuild. The loco started out as a 1917 Baldwin 4-6-2 but starting in 1937 the West Springfield Shops rebuilt the last class of 4-6-2's into more powerful 4-6-4's. Note the "semi-streamlined" wide side valance matched to the painted tender. An inexpensive method of modernizing! The loco only served about twelve years before dieselization relegated it to the scrapper's torch in January of 1952. SLSF 4-6-4 #1066 - St Louis-San Francisco
Title:  SLSF 4-6-4 #1066 - St Louis-San Francisco
Description:  The St Louis-San Francisco did a fantastic job of converting an older 1917 Baldwin 4-6-2 Pacific locomotive into this more powerful 4-6-4 Hudson. Although no date was provided, since the rebuilt loco still has the wide side valence it would place it in the early to mid 1940's. Later it would be removed. The loco was scrapped in December of 1951. hudson specs - serial #45512, 74" drivers, 225 psi boiler pressure, 26x28" cylinders, engine weight of 360,960 lb, tractive effort of 48,919 lb. No date, location or photographer was listed for this photo so approximates were used.

SLSF 4-6-4 #1066 - St Louis-San Francisco
Title:  SLSF 4-6-4 #1066 - St Louis-San Francisco
Description:  This fine looking 4-6-4 Hudson steam locomotive started out as a Baldwin 4-6-2 Pacific built in 1917 before the SLSF West Springfield Shops transformed it. Starting in 1937-40, the Shops rebuilt the Pacifics into more powerful 4-6-4 Hudsons and even added a wide "semi-streamlined" side valence. By this time in its life, the valance had been removed. It was finally sent to the scrapper's torch in December of 1951. Hudson specs - serial #45512, 74" drivers, 225 psi boiler pressure, 26x28" cylinders, engine weight of 360,960 lb, tractive effort of 48,919 lb. Arthur B. Johnson photo

SLSF 4-6-4 #1069 - St Louis-San Francisco
Title:  SLSF 4-6-4 #1069 - St Louis-San Francisco
Description:  Nearly fresh from the SLSF West Springfield Shops where this powerful 4-6-4 Hudson was rebuilt from a 1917 Baldwin 4-6-2 Pacific. Note the wide side valence with matching paint scheme on the tender - a note of inexpensive "streamlining". A note on the back of the photo states "Diamond is "red"." The Hudson had a short service life with the introduction of diesels. It met its final fate at the scrapper's torch in February of 1951. Hudson specs - serial #45701, 74" drivers, 225 psi boiler pressure, 26x28" cylinders, engine weight of 360,960 lb, tractive effort of 48,919 lb. Arthur B. Johnson photo

Unfortunately, SLSF #1065 didn't serve long as it was scrapped in February of 1951. SLSF 4-6-4 #1069 - St Louis-San Francisco
Title:  SLSF 4-6-4 #1069 - St Louis-San Francisco
Description:  An unknown photographer got a closer view of the rebuilt St Louis-San Francisco 4-6-4 Hudson while it was idle in the Kansas City yard. The SLSF West Springfield Shops rebuilt all of the 1917 Baldwin 4-6-2 Pacifics into these more powerful 4-6-4 Hudsons between 1937-40. They also added the inexpensive "semi-streamlined" wide side valence above the running gear and matched it with the paint scheme on the tender. Unfortunately this loco barely served for 11 years before it met its final fate at the scrapper's torch in February of 1951. Hudson specs - serial #45701, 74" drivers, 225 psi boiler pressure, 26x28" cylinders, engine weight of 360,960 lb, tractive effort of 48,919 lb.
