According to Peter Hultgren, this photo appears on page 74 of Don Ball's (1978) book "America's Colorful Railroads." Photo Caption: "The two GP-7's are assisting two E-8 passenger locomotives pulling train #14, a fast mail and express train to Pittsburgh." In the foreground (R to L) are Pennsylvania Railroad engines #8503 and #8502. Both are ES-15M's built by GM-EMD in August of 1952 and rated at 1,500 horsepower each. Also note the presence of PRR engine #6154, a J-1 (2-10-4) "Texas" built in Juniata during December of 1943 and retired in April of 1959 after just 16 years of revenue service. All were built by GM-EMD. #8503 and #8502 are ES-15M's built in August of 1952 and rated at 1,500 horsepower each; they're helping to pull a mail and express train up the Allegheny Mountains to Gallitzin, where they'll uncouple and return to Altoona for yet another helper run up "The Mountain." Note PRR J-1 (2-10-4) "Texas" #6154 running backward on Track #2!
