Westbound semaphore  Contributor's Pick!
The semaphore at Moore Street, MP 13.1, is missing some lenses by this date, but is set in the down aspect, indicating stop. The term semaphore dates back to Roman times (at least) when signals were sent across battle fields and other long distances by men with flags, known as semaphores.
