CofG local from Albany GA to Dothan AL Editors Pick!
The Southern takeover of the CofG is evident in this 1969 look at the Dothan district local using tuxedo scheme power lettered for the Central of Georgia. This is the route that used spacer cars, seen here, due to weight restrictions over the Chattahoochee River trestle which is only 2 miles west of the location where this photo was taken. The coming of the Farley Nuclear plant near Columbia and the heavy loads destined to it would make a new trestle necessary and in a few years after this picture was taken it would be in place and would end the need for the spacer cars.

Thomas Kinney General Great picture and, sincemy dad ran this train off and on for many years, he could have very likely been the engineer on this run. The crews rotated every other day. Dad was the engineer on the first run over the new bridge referenced above. 10/16/2011 6:05:03 PM
