| During the 1970s Rock Island power frequently operated on the SP's "Golden State Route" into El Paso, Texas. Their use further west, while not unheard of, was not particularly popular with crews due to their lack of dynamic brakes. U28B 250 sits in El Paso in May 1973 with four other U-boat sisters.
